My brother leaves today to go back to Hawaii today after being in Japan for 3 weeks (2 in Iwakuni, and 1 here in Osaka).  His flight to Haneda was supposed to be at 8:50 this morning, so we got there around 8:10.  As we're getting off the train, he moves to the side to open his suitcase.  When I asked him what he was doing, he replied saying that his passport was still in his jeans pocket.

To which I said, "Um, I'm pretty sure you put it on my kotatsu when you first got to my apartment.  Did you not grab it?"

....
.....
..  ......

Looked at my watch, realized that there was no way I'd be able to get home, get his passport and come back in time for him to make the 8:50 flight, so we went to talk to the people at the ANA counter about getting a later flight.  The original flight plan was an 8:50 flight from Kansai to Haneda and then a 7:45pm flight from Narita to Honolulu, but initially, they said that they for some reason couldn't guarantee his flight back to Hawaii if he didn't take the original 8:50 flight and asked us to call my brother's company to call the airline since the company's the one that booked the flight.

Well, that was not going to work because the headquarters for my brother's company is in New York and there wasn't going to be anyone there when you figure in time difference and the fact that it's 4th of July weekend.  I told them that he would just take the next flight to Haneda and then figure it out with the people at the United Airlines counter at Narita.  If he ends up having to spend a night in Tokyo, well, that's his fault.

In the end, we had to pay $210 for the flight to Haneda, but they got the ok from United for him to be able to use his original Narita -> Honolulu flight (I really didn't understand what the problem in the first place was though.).  I then went home, found the passport exactly where I thought it would be, and brought it back to the airport.

Now, I should really start thinking about going to a family restaurant to cram study for tomorrow's JLPT.
