Comment to this post, and I will list five things I associate with you. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your LJ (or just add a reply back at me). Other people (including me~) can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

This list is from: [livejournal.com profile] kira_shadow

1. Pho ;)
I actually hated pho growing up.  I thought it was bland and wondered what the big deal was, especially when you can order spring rolls or lemon grass chicken instead.  It wasn't until moved to Seattle that I really started eating Vietnamese food a lot and started eating pho.  I lived above a restaurant that had really good lunch specials and now that I'm in Japan, I really miss it.  There are so many delicious foods in Japan, but sometimes, it can be SO DIFFICULT to find real ethnic food.

2. Tokyo
I disliked Tokyo for a while.  The people are different from Osaka people and the overall feeling is different.  It really didn't help that I would get lost all the freaking time.  But since I started to go into Tokyo more and more often, I've grown a lot more fond of it and even though it's different from Osaka, I think I can appreciate it.  And I guess there are a lot more things to do in Tokyo fandom-wise.

3. Matori
This is definitely gonna get long.  As much as I love Kanju now, I knew nothing about them when I came to Japan.  Beyond BAD and Bun, I didn't even know who was a Kansai Junior and if I can be honest, I'm not sure I really cared.  When [livejournal.com profile] snowqueenofhoth  mailed me saying that she had a friend who couldn't go to BAD's Unit Concert because of work, I pretty much said yes on a whim.  Wow did they impress me.  After that, I certainly paid a lot more attention.

Kikuoka was actually my first Kanju bias.  I'd seen him in some of the dramas and on Shounen Club and he was so adorable that it was hard to not pay attention to him.  LOVED his character Keppiki in TOUGH WEEDS.  But when I started to go to more of Kanju's actual concerts, I noticed that I really wasn't drawn to watch him.  He's very different when he's singing/dancing and interacting with the audience than he is when he's acting or talking with the other members.

Just as I was coming to that realization, I went to Kanju's 2010 Spring concert.  We had 4th row stands and I just could not stop watching these two Juniors.  They kept bouncing around with each other, smiling and having a blast... but I had no idea who they were.  [livejournal.com profile] murasaki_anna  told me who Kusumoto was but she had no idea who the other one was.

Went to Yokoyama Yu's solo con later that week (was there to watch Veteran, I swear!), but I was still curious about figuring out who that other Junior was.  Turned out that he was also backing for Yoko... and once I found him in the background, I don't think I stopped.  He just looked so happy to be up there on stage and I remember being surprised at how good he was about interacting with the fans.  Asked [livejournal.com profile] okuralove816  after the con if she had any idea who that Junior with 'the nose' was and thankfully, she knew.

It's really been downhill since.  In all of Johnny's, he's my second favorite (after Kitayama, of course).

4. Futon
...What?  haha... I'm not sure why you chose this, but sure.  I used to have a double sized bed when I moved to Japan.  I've never had a bed that big and really only used 3/4 of it to sleep on.  The rest was covered in stuff.  About two years ago, I decided that I really didn't need it and would much rather have the space, so I got rid of it and stole my friend's futon.  It's so much easier.

5. Fanfiction
Interestingly enough, the person who introduced me to the world of fanfiction back in 8th grade, was the BOY who ended up being my first boyfriend.  I started off with Sailor Moon and DBZ fanfics.  Then I moved into Gundam Wing and stayed there for a long time.  HP fic came along in high school, but the first time I started to get into real people fanfic was my sophomore year of high school and it was K-pop fic.

In general, I have used and still use fic to learn more about a fandom.  I feel like authors have the responsibility to have a great understanding of the people or stories they're writing about because that's what I felt when reading a lot of my GW and HP fics.  I think this is why I don't take it very lightly when people don't base their fics on fact.  Yes, fanfics are fiction, but there needs to be a basis in fact or it either falls apart or misinforms people.  I don't understand why people purposefully write OOC fics.  It just gives people the wrong impression of the boys and it irks me.

I read a lot less fic nowadays and it's a mixture of less being written, me becoming more unwilling to read authors I don't know, and I think I've just become pickier.

As for writing fic... I'm not a very strong writer.  I never was and as much as I enjoy doing it, I don't always post.  I used to write to help me work through my personal issues, but now I mostly write because no one else writes what I want to read.  I still use writing to help me think things through, but now it's mostly fandom related issues.  I also wish people would not read anything I wrote pre-2009.  I'm embarrassed by what/how I used to write, but can't bring myself to delete any of it.

hello~~~

I certainly have no idea what pho is, but it sounds interesting...

You are living in Osaka right? Well, when you do go to Tokyo, where do you usually stay? I might just be going to Tokyo in late august or early September, but I have yet to find a place to stay, so maybe you can help, please...

Being in the Johnny's fandom for almost a year and half of it liking Kusumoto, Kotaki, Fukada and Goseki make me so mad that there are not many things to see about them compared to other Juniors like Kisumai and BIShadow... BUt now I'm learning more about them and maybe I'm more tolerant of the fac that Kanju will never be as big as Kanto Juniors and some Kanto Juniors are never meant to be debuted...

About the fan fiction thing, I do agree that fact is needed as a foundation or basis, but sometimes it's just so hard to get anything concrete about them that most writers write what they wanted to happen or see... I don't blame them though for not doing too much research of a certain topics or exaggerating others, especially overseas fans facts are hard to acquire...

Nonetheless, a very interesting meme...

Pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup dish.

I always stay with a friend when I go to Tokyo now, but I've stayed at a hotel near Ikebukuro station before and that was convenient. I'd recommend staying at a business hotel and not a hostel. They may be just a few hundred yen more expensive than a hostel, but they're nicer and you'll at least have your own bathroom. I'd also recommend staying somewhere on the west half of the Yamanote line. You'll be a lot closer to all the things a fangirl would want to go to in Tokyo.

Welcome to the world of being a Jr fan. It's not a fair one.

As for the fanfiction, what I'm saying is that even if you put them in different situations or make things AU, it should still be them. Understanding their personalities is important for a fanfic to work for me as a reader. I can't and won't tell people that they shouldn't write what they want to in fanfiction, but I might not read it.

It really is. Makes me think about things that I normally wouldn't stop to think about. Plus it's interesting to see what 5 words people associate with me.

Pho
Yeah, I went to the "Vietnam Festival" in Yoyogi last summer and even though the foostalls there were kinda awesome (and expensive) it was hard to really find something good. The things were nice but not quite...right? I did find one or two restaurants I took to though and after talking to people in vietnamese, you even got better food XD ha! I win! (still the same price though but hey, if it's better quality, who am I to complain?).

Cooking wise, Pho requires so many different spices and a lot of time...my mom took a few years to make this recipe perfect. But I think it paid off. Only problem, now I compare my mom's pho to all the other pho and the others never quite taste 'good' anymore? ^^; aah.

Went to eat vietnamese with Rachel in Shibuya as well but that wasn't much of a success either...was okay. I heard from the vietnamese insiders at the festival though that there's a good restaurant in Yurakucho below the mall towards Ginza...but that's probably hella expensive. My friends tell me there are cheap and good cafés in Kichijoji that serve vietnamese cuisine. *random* Aaaah, I just wanna go back and cook, damnit.

Tokyo
It sure is different. I guess that's why I love to go to Osaka whenever I get the chance. It's refreshing. My first thought of Tokyo was that it was a "Clockwork" it works like one, very mechanic, somehow. In comparison Osaka is "Alive" more. Of course it's good fandom wise (or not because bye bye money) and there are a few places I like...but I think...feeling wise, I might like Osaka better, too...or even just Yokohama :X

Matori
I noticed him "the nose" in mags in my early days but yeah, I didn't really follow any Kanju boys until Gokusen 3 and Butoukan rolled around. That's when I started to immensely enjoy the Osaka Episodes of Shounen Club. I then re-discovered Matori because of you ;D

He pulled me completely onto his side though when I went to Kis-My-Ft2's tour in Osaka and had him dancing RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME. And now...the Oekaki Shiritori for Daremo Shiranai J Gakuen! ♥ Kusumoto, too ^_^ I enjoy writing fic about them. Wish I could see them again live... *crosses fingers*

Futon
Haha, well random question but usually people ask "bed or futon" in questionnaires or interviews? So I thought I'd do it, too. During my stays in Japan I've had both, bed and futons. I think I liked the futons better so far. Somehow the beds I've had were all...meh. Even at hotels or hostels, the futons were usually better. Only the bed at my host family's place was pretty nice...so far. And I guess it saves a lot of space to have a futon instead of a bed. I don't even have a 'real' bed here. It's a couch that you can 'fold out' to get more space.

Fanfiction
Well, you know I agree with all the research. And yeah I've become increasingly picky with what I read. I usually only go with writers I know (and I know I like) unless there's something really intrigueing about the summary or plot or whatever.

I also started writing in the Sailor Moon fandom when I was around 10? And then progressed through Digimon and Gundam Wing and what ever else there was...Digimon was also my first Shounen Ai/Yaoi fandom. Real person slash I kind of got into through HP first and then for real in around 2004 when I lived in NZ and my friends were huge LotR and HP fans...and they didn't just slash characters but also the actors...and through the course of the year I fell into JE fandom and well, yeah, we know where that went.

I also don't want people to read my old stuff. Re-reading it myself makes me want to delete some of the things I wrote in my early days ^^;

Fanfiction also flows easier when you're dealing with something and just want to work it off somehow, I agree. Things just start flowing then. The reason why I dislike taking part in fic exchanges is, I simply cannot force myself to write something. Either, I'm inspired or I'm not. I prefer memes...I can pick stuff there to write.

Wah, long random ranty comment again... ♥
