LJ made that change at the very beginning of September and it pretty much blew up in their faces. They got 10,000 comments complaining about it and a good percentage of lj users moved their journals over to Dreamwidth because of it.
The original change made it possible for people to cross-post locked entries and was a HUGE invasion of privacy. They've since made it so that locked posts can't be cross-posted, but yeah. You'd have to link your lj to your fb/twitter in order to cross-post things, but it would display your real name together with your lj username.
Interesting, yes, but I'd appreciate it greatly if you didn't. ^^; I really want my lj and fb to stay as far away from each other as possible.
